Fuel Bunkering
Highly Accurate, Automated Inline Metering and Reporting

Bunker fuel is a product that is sold by mass and delivered by volume. This requires the bunkering agent to perform manual conversion calculations at the time of delivery. Current manual measurement and conversion techniques of mass to volume have been accepted for decades, even though the methods are prone to error. But given today’s fuel prices and their volatility, the old methods are becoming unacceptable to many fleet owners.

Additionally, aeration and fuel temperature can contribute to inaccurate volume calculations, which can reduce the actual amount of fuel loaded onto a vessel. And if the fuel provider or agent intentionally wants to manipulate this situation, then delivery errors can be compounded.

Utilizing Coriolis-based mass flow metering, FuelTrax automatically monitors and accurately measures both the volume and mass of the fuel during transfer, regardless of air entrainment or fuel temperature.

  • Fuel is ordered by mass and delivered by mass.
  • Mass flow measurement is highly accurate and automatic.
  • Volume is automatically calculated regardless of temperature or aeration.
  • Intentional manipulation of the product will not affect mass measurements.
  • No manual dipping or sounding required.
  • Ship owners benefit by knowing that the amount of fuel ordered is the amount of fuel delivered.
  • Delivery agents benefit from knowing exactly how much fuel is on a barge. Frequent trips to the terminal are eliminated with a subsequent lowering of operational costs.
  • Fewer trips to the terminal mean a reduced spill risk, lowered tug emissions, and improved customer response.
